Maine Retreat

Maine, the way life should be.

5 night retreat, July 24 - 29

After years of retreating around the world I am finally returning to the place that I connect with the most, beautiful Maine. Join me for 5 nights at the Hillholm Estate in the foothills of Maine’s western mountains. We will spend the mornings in practice in the Maine pine wrapped yoga shala overlooking the woods. Your afternoons may take you to the secret swimming hole on the Carrabassett River, or find you relaxing in the cedar barrel sauna and jacuzzi. Perhaps you’ll find yourself transported to another world with a treatment from onsite Healing Arts. Sports fans, amateur and otherwise, will love the clay tennis courts on the property. Miles and miles of hiking trails are nearby including 10 of Maine’s 4,000 foot mountains in the High Peaks Region. Close your day enjoying a sip from the Fireside Prohibition Era cocktail and mocktail bar or take the conversation outside to the awaiting fire pits and Adirondack chairs .

Hillholm Estate

Hillholm Estate, named by and built for Amos G. Winter, is a stately Gilded Age Georgian Revival mansion overlooking the rural village of Kingfield, Maine (population 1,000). It was designed by Freeland and Francis Stanley and built in a bid to woo Julia Magdalena Roesch, a New York socialite, into marriage. The mansion’s original Chickering box grand piano, shipped by horse-drawn wagon over two full months from Boston in 1872, is still present and tuned. The Estate sits on 8 acres with direct access to the Carrabassett River.

You will find these hallowed halls a welcome space to practice slowness as the world outside spins ever faster.

The bespoke bedrooms, all featuring ensuite bathrooms, are divided between the Mansion and Carriage House. You will, quite intentionally, not find TVs, phones, or alarm clocks in the bedrooms, in order to preserve the tranquil atmosphere. High Speed WiFi is offered throughout the Estate.

The yoga shala is wrapped in local Maine pine, with expansive double-hung windows, looking down to the woods. It is equipped with a full compliment of Manduka mats and props.
